Make goals and set targets for the people working under you. Use annual goals to motivate your employees to strive for greatness. You can’t just deliver proclamations and expect that your job is finished. Talk about the goals on a regular basis and hold your team members accountable.

Focus on diversity in your staff. All types of people can give your organization many different ideas from which to draw on. Don’t hire your clone. It limits creativity. Also, your weaknesses and those of your employees could cause your company to fail.

Always come through with your promises. Follow through with promises always. If that is impossible for some reason, you need to let others know why. Making abrupt changes or not fulfilling promises is going to make people lose respect for you, unless they know why you did what you did.

Always show confidence and sincerity with everyone that you work with. Keep in mind that there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Arrogance is never trusted. Sincerity can build understanding and trust between you and employees. However, insincerity will make the workplace a much more difficult place to lead.

Try not to show favoritism when employees are giving suggestions or ideas. Be sure you’re always open-minded and willing to listen to your team. Good leaders treat people the way they would like to be treated. Stay fair and always live up to your promises.
